198? evinrude 88 spl

If you have read my other post [Wrong motor] then you already know that i don't know exactly what year my motor is.Can someone tell me as to where i can look to find out what year it is?I looked at the plug on top of motor and there is not any numbers there.

there should be a label on the side of the transom mount.

If that label isn't there, normally on the starboard side(right) of the motor mount there is a welch plug, nickel size, plug somewhere on the engine itself that has the serial number on it.

The # i was going by before was on the transom mount,thats the 1 that says it's an 1995 model # E88TSLEOC.it's not the correct tag for powrhead thats on motor.I will look for the plug with numbers tomorrow.Thanks for info.

if this plug is on top it's has been replaced with a new 1,it's smooth witn no numbers.i have looked and looked and i don't see a plug anywhere with numbers

If its a different powerhead than the factory one, chances are it's been rebuilt and they replaced that welch plug, so it's no longer there with numbers on it, just a blank one.

well we don't know what model or year it is. but we can try to fake it, as they are 99% alike, for quite a few years.

On the shop evinrude.com I've come to the conclusion that it is a 1987 model#E88MSLCUS.It has the 2 power pack system and 87 is the only year i saw that has this.thanks for help
