merc 65hp merc 650

help help help.....not a boater yet, bought a 1966 span boat with a merc 650 65 hp.... motor runs fine until you put it in the water and put it in gear when you power it up it does not go anywhere it like its pulling the dock with it......then it gets hot and shuts off....... anything would be helpful thanks cj

How about some background on the motor. Has it sat for a long time without being ran? Whats the compression readings?

anything in the prop? is water peeing out?
