I just found out from a marine mechanic that my exhaust bellow is torn and needs replacing and thet I cant go in the water until its fixed. I spoke to the guy I brought the boat off and he said that he was told there is no problems with having torn exhaust bellows, its just noisy.
I have read the forums and there are conflicting stories, I am going to get it fixed but I was wondering what damage could have been caused while the previous owner was driving the boat with torn Exhaust bellows.

help!!! :)

Thanks Drydock,
I had a mechanic look at the other bellows and he said they look fine, so I was hoping to leave the Exhuast Bellow until next year when I change all the bellows and get its yearly service. I Just really want to confirm by as many people as possible that by having the exhaust Bellow torn, it wont hurt my boat,,I think the mechanic might be trying to screw me, as he said you cant go into the water until its fixed.

Ayuh,...

Other than possibly Scorching the drive bellows,... There's probably no other damage done...
But,..
As noted,.. the Rest of the bellows are probably Junk anyways...

It would also be Nice to know just What the 'ell you're workin' on...

You could remove the exhaust bellows completely and not have any issues with water getting into the engine, etc. I think it is time to find another marine mechanic!

does salt water vs. fresh water play a factor in bellows life?
