Hi: Is there a device that you can buy for a Yamaha outboard that can monitor or give indicators on engine parameters like temperature, oil level, run hours? My dealer says there is such a computer for service mechanics they use much like a black box on a plane. It would be helpful if it can be dash mounted to figure out if a warning beep is temperature or oil or something else. I have a 20007 F115 4 stroke. Thanks.

yes, its called find a real dealership that can fully, actually should have before the sale, explain to you the advantages of rigging your F150 with command link gauges.
command link can show all engine paremeters as well as sea water temp, depth and speed.
it will flash a maint indicate lamp at your 100 hr intravels as well as set the water detect visual in the event of a water detection while the engine is in gear.
to many dealers dont understand command link or even the importance of the standard digital 6Y5 tach, even the 6Y5 tach can differentiate between oil and temp alarms as well as give critical WOT information.
the command link will also show fuel flow rates in both MPG and gallons per hour for fine tuning trim and trim tab settings or even shifting hull loads.
so for 700 more on your 11K motor you could have had the twin guage square command link package but all is not lost as its still a plug and play option on your motor.
the only drawback is it takes a software engineering degree to operate it :)
its not hard just not real user friendly but with some play time you can configure it to display a wide array of engine information.

Lowrance makes some gauges that display NMEA 2000 data that the new yamaha 4 strokes put out Same info as displayed for yama command link gauges but a lot cheaper. The lowrance LMF-400 and LMF-200 gauges display most of the info you are looking for. Lowrance has a cable that plugs into the the engine. Google nmea2000 and yamaha.

Re: Yamaha Outboard Monitoring Device?

then google lmf-400 interface problems yamaha.
we are having some issues with non-yamaha product interface.
as Yamaha doesnt build any lowrance products there is no yamaha support for interface issues and so far lowrance doesnt help much either.
but it is cheaper.
