Weird problem here with the ignition system. Here is the setup:

I have a charged new starting battery connected to the engine. The wiring harness is disconnected from the boat. I am using a remote starter switch connected between the battery cable and the small post on the solenoid. All of the plugs are out cause I just did a compression test. I did a spark test and got a blue spark right off the bat.

Here is the issue I am having. I am trying to confirm the WOT timing is correct, but the spark pops only once or twice, then nothing. The RPMs don't drop or anything like that, just one or two fires and then nothing. I am using a timing light that connect to the + and - terminals of the battery and clamps around the plug wire.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are your spark plugs grounded to the block? If not you'll get intermittent spark.

Do all of the plugs need to be grounded or just the one I am testing?
