Just wondering if there was anyone local that could show me how to use my 9.8 and see if its ready to hit the water.

I hate to pay a tech when I know nothing about them as it leaves the door open for unneeded 'fixes' such as changing the headlight fluid on a car.

I know what you mean. Do you have a repair manual for your year motor?

If not get one and some of the fellas can walk you through most if not all of your troubles.

If you're not sure of the year and model of your motor, post the serial #.

I have a 9.8, ser # 2240791 (1967), it's a strong runner and can push my 14 foot jon boat right at 20mph unloaded. Yours is a much later model, I'm guessing 1980's.

I live just outside of Huntsville, if you'd like to come up this way to Guntersville sometime I can roll out that way and give you a hand. Do you know anything about it as far as maintenance?

This is my first boat and marine engine. I know nothing about them yet. I go out first thing in the morning to try it out on the river. Will let you know if I have any issues or sink my truck trying to launch for the first time.

Well, I went out fishing this morning. I had no issues with the engine, but ran out of gas 3 miles from the boat launch  A nice couple in a pontoon dragged me back to the docks.

With a 14 foot fiberglass flat bottom, my top speed was 7 MPH. I ran it between 5-6 and it ran like a champ.

No problems launching, but loading was sorta a pain with no gas :D

Hopefully I will get to go back out and look for the big catfish out there tomorrow night.
