did the 35 hp use rubber hubs, and if so in what year did they start. Do you like this design over sheer pins. What are some pro's and con's.

Thanks

Re: rubber hub

Some have rubber hubs and shearpins.
The shearpin can be fixed right now the rubber will need to be replaced until it's fixed. You can carry hundreds of shearpins but not hundreds of spare props. Also WAY!!!!! cheaper.Jerry

Re: rubber hub

All the way back to the early 1960s, Chrysler used rubber hubbed props on almost all their engines. Earlier, West Bend probably did also. The only exceptions I know of are the 3.6 and 4 hp engines which used strictly a shear pin drive. On the other engines, the hub was splined to take engine torque and a "shear" pin located the prop on the shaft. The pin was held in place by the tail cone. Even engines as large as the 120 used this arrangement. I never particularly cared for it. If the pin broke, the prop could ride back on the shaft and wear against the lower unit casting. After 1979. they changed the lower unit and then the prop was located on the shaft by a thrust washer.
