Hi all, new to this site. I picked up my Yamaha T-8 last nite and started in on the owners manual and noted that the oil filter is supposed to be located in the oil pan. That's a new one on me in regards to a place to put a filter but ok.

Anyway what is the process for changing that filter? I'm ordering the service manual but figured I would get a heads up from you guys.

Thanks,

Its a plastic strainer and is not normally replaced unless you are removing the powerhead for whatever the reason.

Also if the engine has overheated, it may be a good idea to check/replace it.

Ok thanks. The owners manual has it down to change at 200 hours.

Wow.......guess I should have read that before I opened my mouth:D

The best thing you can do to prolong that time is change the oil and keep it fresh. With those its easy. Tilt it up all the way and then remove the drain plug. Then tilt it down slowly and drain it as it is tilted down. Should be less then a quart.

Also make sure that you have the aluminum drain washer either in the plug area or on the plug itself. Its hard tell when its in the hole because it looks like its part of the threaded hole.

The replacement washers are a different material and easier to see.
