Boat painting??

i will be painting my boat soon and was wondering if i should put a clear coat on after the paint?

I did when i painted the transom on my boat.I used Duponts high end paint and clear coat and it has held up great. Mine lives on the trailer and does not sit in the water all summer.
Actually it was 3 coats color and about 4 coats clear.

If you use a marine paint you don't need clear coat, but if you go with what Gary used 2 stage paint you will need a clear coat.
Just depends on who's paint you use.

a buddy of mine is gona get me some automotive paint for nothing.

That should work fine and save you a lot of money.I ended up with about 100 bucks just in a quart of the Dupont stuff.

How long has it held up for? How often does your boat see the salt?
