i looked inside the tank. it looks perfect except some paint chips fell in when i undid the latch. how can i get those out? should i just put a fuel filter on the hose and fill the tank up?

Re: old fuel tank

if you can see the paint chips you can retrieve them.
Use a wooded stick or something with a wad of plumbers putty on the end and stick'em up with the stick.

The solvent and bb's scour the inside of the tank. If you have a trunk, do that and drive around for one week, hitting every pot hole/bump you can.

The bb's rattle around in the tank, and knock off the crud. Out of the boat.
