I installed a flapper in the exhaust elbow from a 1974 Mercruiser 165. The old brackets were re-used by drilling out the rivets. The flapper is now too tight. It makes contact with the brackets. Non flapping flapper (oem p/n 45586). Should the shutter be trimmed where it contacts the bracket?

That pic is what I have, but now no rivets. The flapper is rubbing near to where the square holes in the bracket are located.

Oh...as Gilda Radner said....Nevermind. It's embarrassing to say what I did. Upside down.
