Have a question for a friend he was running motor on sat. all of a sudden idled down & quit. checked it yesterday and no spark. I dont have a lot of experience with the older mercs. any help will be appriciated thanks

Also if every thing tests alright change the insulator blocks on the point studs they will give you afit

OK this is the owner of the 7.5 hp merc. Tested per your procedure. Thanks for the help laddies. The brown wire disconnected from coil allowed spark from the other connected coil. Yea, progress! That says that the brown wire is bad or points are bad. But to get flywheel off requires 3 large phillips head screws to be disconnected. Then nut on top would probably be next and harmonic pully puller used to get flywheel off. Am I correct? Cornell
