Ran aground Engine overheat?

Hello. I am a new boater with a 1988 125 force L drive. We took it out yesterday and ran aground on our way back. This set off the hot engine alarm almost immediately, although we didn?t know what it was at the time. After pushing out and cleaning off what we could, we started back home. The alarm continued for about 30 seconds and then quit until it I put it into reverse at the dock. Then is started up again and then quit.

Several questions.
1 Is there an easy way to tell if I have damaged the engine?
2 How can I tell if I need to replace the impeller?

Thanks,

Nick

Thanks for the advice, how hard are the pump and water tube to access? The manual that came with the engine doesn?t have any diagrams that tell what parts are what.

Buy yourself a manual for that motor it will pay for itself 1000 times over and give step by step instructions it not hard. You can get a manual here

Do a compression test on all cylinders. It gives atleast an indication if you had damage
