I have a 1999 Searay. The fuel pump doesn't come on when I turn on the ignition switch. I have checked some of the wires and the connections around the top of the motor. I got It to run but then when I tried it again later it wouldnt come. It seems to be intermittant. Any suggestions before I go to the dealer?
Thanks
Brian

Re: 5.7L EFI Fuel Pump

Welcome to iboats.....:)
Most likely it is the oil pressure switch that is located by the distributer.....
If the symptom is engine will start then dies, this is the culprit....
If you put a jumper across the two wires on the switch will the pump run?....
Don S has a pic, I'll see if I can find it.....;)
Jumping the switch is a temporary measure to diagnose or get ya home, not a fix....
Your pump will continue running with the key off...

Thanks for the reply. The engine doesn't start because the pump never comes on. I will try to jumper it.

In that case, I would look at the electrical connections on the pump itself....
The pump should run when the key is turned to the 'start' position.....
You should get out a tester & see if you are getting voltage to the pump...;)

If that doesnt work, check for power to the pump. If it has power to the pump, the pump is probably bad. If no power, then work back to relay and switch.

Also check all grounds on motor.

The wiring diagram posted by Haut is for carbed models and is not the same as the EFI systems. Your EFI system should have two fuel pumps.

Re: 5.7L EFI Fuel Pump

1999 searay uses an electric fuel solenoid that is tied into the voltage going to the fuel pump. Disconnect the 2 connectors that go to the fuel pump, there should be a grey wiring harness, that goes to the fuel solenoid.
SeaRay dosen't use antisfion valves in there fuel pick ups, they use an fuel soleniod for that purpose. You can bypass fuel flow by turning the lever to the off postion.
Can ya hear the fuel pumps running at the key on postion for 5 seconds?
What the model numbers too?
Did ya check the fuses?

Is it a Mercruiser EFI, or a Volvo? Makes a big difference on how to troubleshoot it.
