dball,

fwiw, that particuliar sort of post- 1962, 40HP "Johnnyrude" (with the exception of the "electric shift" ones!!!) is one of the TOUGHEST OBs ever built.

given minimum care, it may well outlast me/you both & it's simple enough to work on YOURSELF. (get yourself a johnson/evinrude SECOR manual & you'll see what i mean about "simple to work on" AND you will need NO "special tools".)

fwiw, i know a a commercial saltwater trotliner from Bayport, TX has been using his every day since he bought it used in "the mid 60s".

NICE cathedral hulled boat too!!!

yours, sw

nice boat i wish you could find older boats in that condition down here
i live in south louisiana you see very few boats of that condition.
i have a 17ft mckee with evin 150 im restoreing.
have owned a few v hulls and a couple of tri hulls
the mckee is rough riding
but i trust it out further than any of my newer v hulls
but it is also foam filled and almost unsinkable, almost
and i have left the plug out , it goes with boating
good luck beautifull boat

That is a very beautiful boat! Looks like it was very well taken care off. Enjoy!

Thats a great first boat. And a great looking boat too! Make sure you check the trailer out well before using it a lot. I see some rust, and you want to be sure the bearins, etc are all in good shape so you don't trash the boat when a wheel falls off or spring or shackle breaks.

Small boats are a blast! You will love it.
