Is your cabin sealed from the engine bilge? We have a 24 foot cabin cruiser (SeaRay 240 DA) and the air conditioner intake is not sealed to the cabin and sucks in air from the engine compartment. Is this safe? It certainly adds to the oil smell in the cabin but we don't have a generator so there doesn't seem to be a CO risk. We only use the air when plugged into AC.

I would think there should be a fresh air intake.

I thought so too, but I was wondering if it is a design specification or law or something like that.

They typically are not perfectly sealed. They will have holes to route cables and bulkheads which are in place but not sealed at the edges.

that doesn't seem quite right...

You guys are right, they tried to seal it up but left a few holes and spaces that are not completly sealed. I didn't see that the whole space where the air conditioner is placed is sealed off from the engine.
