88 spl controls

I have (i think) an 1991 88 spl. I want to change it over to another boat that has controls from a 1979 johnson 115, and i was just wondering if i could use the 1979 controls for the 88. I'd save me alot of time and the hassle of switching them over..

Just to follow up.. im actually getting the 1991 88 spl now haha, and im going to just take off the old blown 1979 115 and put this one on. All the controls and wiring are the same correct?

if the new has trim & tilt, and the old one didn't, you need the tnt controls. other than that the same.

sweet.. tnt doesn't really matter, it'd come off either way cus i have a GNC one. Thanks for the reply though!
