Did anyone have experience with Ethanol and fiberglass tank in your boat?
I just learned that ethanol eats up fiberglass gas tanks and I just happen to replace 2 yrs ago my old pitted aluminum gas tank from the belly of my 19' Monterey bowrider with a new tailor made fiberglass gas tank. What is it with fiberglass and E10? Will I see the effect overnight? Is it something you can detect by detaching the gas sender unit and look thu the tank?
How have you dealt with it?
I will hate to see $400 down the tube and another $400 ON NEW TANK!

I don't think Tailormade makes Fiberglass tanks, they do however, make polypropelene and polyethelene (sp) tanks (aka Plastic). Might want to be sure what you have.

When I say "tailor made" I ment "custom built". At that point I decided to replace the old aluminum tank to fiberglass because I was advised fiberglass did not condensate as aluminum and if saltwater gets in- then aluminum will pitt as the one I had. Plastic was not recomended because they claimed Plastic is less resistant than fiberglass. Now I have this dilema and want to have peace of mind.

Re: Ethanol and fiberglass tanks

it depends on the resin that was used to build the tank

You would need to Know what was used and than can find out how it is affected
