Checked the waterpump and all is good. Now the motor won't turn over at all. It is slowly rotating. The starter is now too hot to touch. What could the problem be now?

Re: Starter overheating.

Check the charge in the battery, reestablish all the grounds to the starter and if the condition still exists, take the starter to a rebuild shop or some parts stores will check the starter itself.

Rads, Heat means resistance. If the starter is heating up, without turning than it likely has a shorted winding. If the cables are heating up, they have high restance.

One other possibility; the starter may need shimming to move it away from the flywheel a tad. If the centerline of the armature is too close to the flywheel, a binding situation occurs. Not likely, just another item to check.

What would cause the battery to lose it's charge?

It can lose a charge just from the lack of use and being hooked to a battery conditioner or more than likely some device is drawing current from the battery.
