Before I chage the gear oil, I'm just looking for a safety net answer. I have an 88 Evinrude XP150. The shop I bought the oil from said that Mercury high performance gear oil would be a good replacement for the recommended OMC Hi Vis. I'm only 1 month into boating, and I don't wanna screw up too bad yet. Is the Mercury stuff good to use? Thanks for any advice.

Re: Gear Oil

as long as it is rated 80/90 outboard lower unit(gearcase) oil. there are many brands, as there are TCW-3 that you mix with gas, or put in the vro tank.

Re: Gear Oil

I am using Mercury high performance sterndrive and outboard lower unit gear lube in my Johnson 140hp. No issues whatsoever.
