Spark plugs = Champion J4C or J6C, gap set to .030 . The J6C might give you better performance due to the engine's age.

Points = Have flywheel key aligned with fiber rubbing portion of the points. Set points so that a .020 feeler gauge passes thru but a .022 will not.

Gearlube = HiVis 80/90w, available at Wal*Mart, K-Mart, your local dealership.

Mixture = 50/1 = 1pt of 50/1 TCW-III oil to 6 gal gas. A octane rating of 87 will be fine.

Joe, is the '59 really a 50:1 mixture? As I have a '60 40hp which I thought was 24:1?

Here we go again. It was 24:1. A lot of people run less oil though. The arguement will never end, who is right. I say decide for yourself.

Sam..... Any engine that incorporates "all" needle, roller or/and ball bearings within its powerhead can safely use the 50/1 fuel/oil mixture. That includes your 1959 35hp and the 1960 40hp models.
