Does anyone know what year Evinrude came out with a 50hp VRO? Thinking of buying one, but seller is not sure of the year model. He said it was the first year they sold this motor.

1984 was the first VRO year, but not all models were VRO the first year.

Older model VRO pumps are bad about going out. Might want to convert to mixing oil yourself. Just remove the old combo Fuel/VRO pump. Plug the lines, then install the old style fuel pump. Be sure to mix your gas/oil 50:1.

I just did one. Not too difficult. Results might shock you. Mine runs better without the vro. Might also want to put in a water/fuel seperator type filter and remove the one in the engine compartment. Lots less hassle, and easy to do while your working on the fuel system anyway.
