I got this boat about a week or 2 ago from a guy that had 3 boats in his yard and a nagging wife to get rid of at least one. I think i figured out the pictures thanks to tashasdaddy. So here they go ... I got it for a verry good deal. There was another thread talking about where to find a project boat. This one kinda found me. Im verry happy with it. It floats and im about to start tearing into it. I wanted to open up the closed bow but after looking at it a whyle i like how it looks and i can store stuff under there.

Ok, heres Scott's usual reading list:

#1 - Runabout Renovation: How to Find and Fix Up an Old Fiberglass Speedboat by Jim Anderson
http://www.amazon.com/Runabout-Reno...0255336?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1176991542&sr=8-1

And you can probably find this one at the library: The Fiberglass Boat Repair Manual by Allan H. Viatses
http://www.amazon.com/Fiberglass-Bo...0255336?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1176991609&sr=1-2

Book I got at the library and then bought a used copy on half.com for $3.00
http://product.half.ebay.com/_W0QQprZ4478978QQcpidZ1186450896

Suppliers for resin and fiberglass cloth I have used with good luck:

http://www.uscomposites.com/epoxy.html

http://stores.ebay.com/Tordoff-Supply

It also looks like you get to do the outboard thing, so here are resources on outboards:

Max Wawrzyniak's Obsolete Outboards column: http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/07/columns/max/articles.htm

Max's stuff is also published as a book, fantastic reading for ALL outboard owners: http://www.duckworksbbs.com/media/books/cheap/index.htm

You can 'blog' your project for FREE at www.shareaproject.com and its also a great way to store pictures to link with forum posts.

boy you posted them fast. glad to help. great find. keep the bow. it's a great place for kids & wife to lounge while you fish. also under the bow is great when it's cold. when i was a kid we would get under there, when running in the cold, it was fun getting bounced around. also makes a great dive platform.

Re: Pics of my old (new to me) sea ray

the floor is new thats in there now and it has a verry thin layer of glass on top of it but i think i might redo it again. The stringers are verry strong from the transom up past the steering wheel at least. I got to get under the bow to see if there is foam in there, i want to check that out as well. I was thinking that the stringers would be rotted and would have to be replaced but after inspecting them they are solid and dry. Under the closed bow part there was a gas tank up under there at some time but prev. owner took it out and used portable tanks up there. Whick is ok with me as i would prob do the same thing. I think im going to put in the 2 back to back seats in there that came with the boat and 2 jump seats one on eather side of the splash well. My wife wants me to carpet the inside but i think once i get it all cleaned out and get the floor squared away and glassed in that ill take it somewhere and get rino-liner sprayed in there. I dont like trying to clean out a boat that has carpet. Im sure ill be asking plenty of questions on here as ive been following this forum daily for the last 2 years. Ive learned a lot from all you guys on here and wanted to say Thank You.

Re: Pics of my old (new to me) sea ray

thanks sdunt ive used the shareaproject before with a 14 aluminum boat that i decked out. http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectTut,p,265,00.html/

I did finish the project all though i did not finish the shareaproject part of it. It turned out great. I think after i get it all cleaned out ill start a shareaproject so you all can see my progress. I know ive enjoyed looking at that site and learned an awful lot there too.

The registration has it listed as a 1972 sea ray.. I know its a sea ray from the side emblem but on sea ray site it does not list a 17' for that year. I think its a 18' just incorrect data on registration. Also i need to get a coast guard data plate for it. Someone told me that they didnt put them on there back then. The guy before me used a 115 hp on it. Im looking to get a 85 or better. The controlls and steering are there set up for jonny/rude although the steering wheel is in bad shape.
