We have a '92 Bayliner Capri w/175 Mercruiser. We very stiff power steering! Two hands required for everything. I have ruled out the pump because there were not your "typical" pump going out "noises" or reactions. Where do I begin since I dont a have service manual. Thanks for any suggestions

Re: Power Steering Out

Your problem is probably not a PS problem, but a corrosion problem. The Stainless Steel cable going thru the Aluminum tube in the power steering unit usually corrode and cause the cable to freeze to the tube. HEAT on the alum. tube will usually free it up enough to remove the cable so you can clean it and lube the cable end where it contacts the tube.
