I have an old Mercury outboard. I don?t have a serial number with me but it?s a late sixties vintage I think it?s around 90 horse. I haven?t run it in a few years. I was thinking of overhauling it but I wondering if parts would be hard to find or too expensive ? I could do most of the work myself.

Is it worth it?

if you are mechanically inclined, you can rebuild it. is it worth it, not if you plan to sell it and make a profit. but if you plan to use it, have you priced new motors lately. there's still a pretty good source for the inline 6 engines.

A well put together old Merc is 1/10th cost of new..and more fun too. Needs to be done by a seasoned pro that does old motors though....its the little things. Parts not expensive..Pistons, rings, seals, bearings...need to check certain motor plates for flatness/cracks though....
