Transom angle and height

Hi all, I building a small boat to putter around in and had 2 questions. What is the height the top of the transom should be above the water roughly (for a small 5.5 or 10hp OMC) and what is the angle please. I believe the angle is 10-15 degrees and the height is around be 15 inches? Please confirm... thanks

Height depends on the 'shaft length' of the outboard. Small outboards (short shaft) are 15 inch and long shaft is 20 inches. Take a look at: http://www.duckworksmagazine.com/05/columns/max/4/long&short05.htm

Does that equate to the top of the transom needing to be 15" above the water line then? (for a small engine which is what I have)
