Dow closes near 13000!!!

Yipee! The market has been rockin' this year. Bet its over 13000 in a few weeks.

I'm counting on good market performance to finance my next boat project. So lets hope nothing happens to mess it up.

Now I know this will turn to a political thread. So let me just throw this in first: Darned Republicans are just making the market perform better because elections are coming up.

I noticed that the "managed funds" have been doing well in my 401K. (Mutal funds that automaticlly adjust from agressive stocks to conservative stocks as time passes). The 2020 fund does well, about 4% return YTD, the 2030 is returning about 6%, and the 2040 is about 4%. So I looked at the mutual funds my broker offered (no load, no fee) in the same years (2020, 2030, and 2040 mature dates) and they too are performing the same. So I moved some of my funds into them and all is well.

I'm 48 now, so I still invest about 1/2 of my finances aggressivelly. Just something to look into if you have your nest egg in money market funds.

Id be careful with your money in the stk market, the gain's you see posted do not reflect the american retail market, Big corp's are trading there gain's on the international market............... Our market is headed for a sharp correction, when housing and cars are off it does not bode well, Beware of the mid 80's mentality, it is our life blood...

Just a though your milage may very.......... Dramatically........

The market always likes the party that controls the white house to be the minority party in the congress.

The more gridlock, and less accomplished in government, the better it is for the market.

Yep, over 13,000 now. I am glad there are the Tail_Gunner's out there, cause I tend to be a contrarian at times. And we need the voice of negativity in the market to keep it stable. When a correction is happening, we need the voice of the positive thinkers - just to keep the market from over reacting.

Are we having an over reaction today and in the past few weeks? I don't think so, but I also think there will be a correction - there always is ... and them pendulum of the market swings back and forth, but the real gainers are the ones that are in it for the long haul ...

The dow is the old economy. The Nasdaq is the "new" economy. While the Dow is hitting new highs, the Nasdaq is still 50% of what it was in 2000.

The dow is the old economy. The Nasdaq is the "new" economy. While the Dow is hitting new highs, the Nasdaq is still 50% of what it was in 2000.

I would agree with that statement. I road the Nasdaq to the 2000 high and didn't bail when I thought I should - because of tax payments, didn't want all those capital gains. Then off to the other side of the world and before I knew it, I lost the tax payments and more (but in the long term, still made out okay).

The Nasdaq took the "new wave" of technology and road it to new heights. I don't know if we will ever see such rapid advances in techs with social and economic climate that was ripe for the rapid rise, and fall, of the Nasdaq. I will agree that the Nasdaq is the new economy, but it has to stand on the old, or it will never reach it's necessary stature. Both go hand in hand.

That said, with the rise in the Dow of 1,000 points in 6 months, that is pretty amazing. I felt it would get to this point, but not nearly this fast - maybe next year this time. I feel it was too fast, and there will be a correction, the market always does, so if I wasn't in now I don't think I would chase it. But, I won't run from it, and when it corrects, I will add more $ to what I have ...

I rode it up to 2000; when it started sliding, was greedy and held too long before selling. But still made a pile.

Not being negative here at all, but i am deeply worried as to where the big gain's are coming from
