Re: post pics of your mercs

Just got done with the motor, still working on the boat as it was a bare hull. 16 foot Flatbottom, Merc is a 1350 Frankenmerc...all new needed stuff crank up. Pro honed, 2 new pistons/all new rings and bearings and the best stuff..1500 reeds. 1400 carbs, all surfaces machined for flatness, 78 trigger with the offset #3 window, cooling passages opened up where needed to cure the old cooling problem on top... what a BEAST!

Hey Scaaty, Great lookin' setup!! Wish I had some pics of my 1968 14' Carlson (tunnel hull), with my 1250 short shaft. I think I have one or two that I still can't find. The hull was rated for 85 hp and was very light and fast. It rode very well (North of 70MPH) as long as the chop was 6 inches or less. Four inch chop was perfect for maximum speed n' just the right lift. I noticed your block is silver. When did they change to the black blocks? If you know. I also notice Wayne, (Clams), tells people not to run WOT for very long. He may be talking about motors that are not running right. Can I run the old girls at WOT for periods of time without damage? (Three 115s 1978,1979, 1981); (two 1000s both 1969 most is good shape, {have not totally checked out a couple of 'em). Thanks, (if you know the answer). Sorry for the high jack! JR

Yep on the too much fun old days with too damn much youth and HP , and not a care!! Had a light 17 foot Switzercraft (Illinois built) with a 150XS in the late 70's that rode the pad with a little sawing on the wheel at 73mph. Jeezz, what a gas. Still don't know what this one will handle like. Its flat, 2 skegs, about an inch drop at the chines to catch air, 10 inch pad..I will find out soon. I would need to ask my Merc Guru (or maybe CC will chime in here) about the silver innards. I do know its 72 115 block, which was a choked down 135, and its back to the 135 parts..
WOT...the big inlines like to (from what I have been told..melted a piston on the XS) get hot upstairs, or like I mentioned on the early Triggers the #3 window...dunno...timing VERY critical..just fun to nail, then back off..
Ya know I should come over there and beat ya up for selling a 14 foot Carlson Tunnel, right??:D :D :D
Couple pix of the Switzer XS and what it attracted

I think 72 was the last year for the silver blocks. I know they were black for sure in 75

Yes I wish someone would. I REALLY REALLY regret it!! Wish I had more pictures, (and wish I could find the ones I lost). That was the koolist boat I ever had. It would scare people jus' sittin' on the kool custom trailer that I still have, (it had only one skeg). My van was almost the same color so it looked like a matched set. 0 - 60 + MPH in a couple hundred feet or so. It felt like a late 60s muscle car with the adrenaline rush pusin' ya into the seat n' all. Great sport!! I'm just glad I never flipped it as the power trim would stick n' make the bow light, (came close a couple of times before fixin' that problem). JR
