Lower unit corrosion

I have a Force lower unit that's pretty badly corroded right up on the nose of the gearcase. It covers about 2 square inches of the bottom of the nose and looks about at least 1/8 inch deep. I don't trust it. The rest of the gearcase is in good condition.

Has anyone had one of these built up again with weld? if so, were you pleased with the results?

I've toyed with the idea of epoxying it but I don't think this is a viable repair.

Your comments will help me decide wether to scrap this lower unit or not.

Re: Lower unit corrosion

Heat will distort the housing and the forward bearing will suffer. I'm afraid epoxy would be your best option short of replacement.
