The difference between the old days and today really was that we didn't have video cameras to record the stupid human tricks we did.
I remember a grassy steep hill near my house. Us kids swiped an old car hood from someone's backyard, and spend the day sledding down that hill on it. I was picking dirt out of all the scrapes I got for hours. Fun as heck, though. The car hood did not survive.
We did that summers off the Denison Damn on lake Texoma, winters when it snowed, or we had a ice storm, we used intertubes we got from the airbase. Seems like all we ever did was stupid, but fun.
I feel much better knowing that most kids today are all safe in their virtual world, clicking away their youth.
I just hope when they do leave the house they do not turn out like my young neighbor. He thinks because he spent thousands of hours playing rally racer on his PC, he can now drive like one. Has wrecked his car a dozen times in the last 14 months showing us all how good he can drive in front of the house.
Seems everything he ever did in life was on the computer. He is a base jumper, a pro snowboarder, a green beret, a world renowned hacker ...
