I suppose the Best Answer would be SSteel Staples,.....

For Arrow Staplers they are sold as "Monel" Staples,.....

I think they now have them at Home (not so)Cheapo. When I got mine I had to order them thru an Arrow distributor. They are a definite must for stapling your carpet. Standard staples would last 6 mo in fresh water and 6 days in salt.

Just did mine withe regular :(

Not too late LF, just restaple next time you launch your rig. The steel will go away at it's leisure and the Monel will stay behind to finish the job.

HD sells a indoor/outdoor hall runner carpet by the foot, extremely durable 24" wide. i use it, split it into two 12" strips, and use galvinized roofing nails.

In our area we have a couple of different hardware stores that compete with HD by carrying much more comprehensive inventories. Maybe you have something similar in Ontario. Get out the Yellow Pages and start calling around. Someone is bound to have them in your area.

Lifeisfun, If there is a spot where you can attach the carpet to the bunks that the hull doesn't touch, you can nail it there using roof nails. You could also use galv fence staples (the hammer-in type),

I use my upholstery air stapler with stainless staples. You may be able to rent an electric or air powered one. The staples are fairly expensive but probably better than the ones you will be buying at HD.

Worth repeating, or do it the hard way....

Bruce, you cannot do better than Monel for marine use.

I was actually referring to the thickness/length of the staple itself. The size of the staples that fit in the hand actuated staplers can't be put in deep enough to stay permanently.

I beg to differ Bruce. My carpet rots before my monel staples let loose. Of course you should be using pressure treated wood for the bunks.

Re: bunk board carpet question

Boomyal,

That has just been my experience using the hand staplers. I have more experience with upholstery. I would never use a hand stapler for upholstery work or for carpeting that I put on docks. Staples just pull right out.
