When I purchased this PC it was pre loaded with McAfee, the appro period has now run out and I want to delete the program. I have tried to remove it in the add remove program system and it won't work, I now get a warning on boot up saying parts of McAfee have not loaded correctly.
Can anyone help

Re: How do I delete Mcafee

Unfortunatly just like Norton you really have to know what your doing to rid yourself of these DEVILS.
One of the many reasons WE hate these programs and avoid them like the plague.

Probably not an option for you but installing a clean operating system would be best, not the recovery crap they gave you with the PC.

Maybe Excusme has some tricks for you.......

[colour=blue]I use 'Advanced Uninstaller Pro 2005'. To date, I haven't found a program that it can't completely remove - but I've never tried it on McAfee.

Re: How do I delete Mcafee

It took me about 1 hour to totally get rid of McAfee on a new Dell that my mom bought. There is no way to explain all the crap I had to remove to get it gone.

If it is WinXP with Service Pack 2 you then get the fun of trying to get the Security Center to let it go as well. I am with PierBridge...I don't load that stuff becuase it takes over your system because "THEY" know what's good for you.

Good Luck

Re: How do I delete Mcafee

Interesting problem. I was just reading the Sept 2006 issue of Consumer Reports. They compare anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam programs. No mention about trying to uninstall any of it.

Consumer Report’s recommendations fo anyone that still wants to load the stuff:

Anti-Virus: (1) BitDefender, (2) Zone Labs, and (3) Kaspersky Labs, in that order. AcAfee rated 6th, just above Trend Micro at 7th.

Anti-spyware: (1) F-Secure Anti-Spyware 2006, (2) Webroot Spy Sweeper, and (3) PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Always free Spybot is noted as a QuickPick by the editor even tho it came in at 6th place, just below Lavasoft’s AdAware in 5th place.

Anti-Spam: (1) TrendMicro’s free Anti-spam Pilot, (2) Allume Systems SpamCatcher, and (3) Cluodmark Desktop. All of those programs come in under either Outlook or Apple’s OS 10 Mail’s embedded anti-spam routines.

Re: How do I delete Mcafee

Yup, I read that article in Consumer Reports too. I grinned a bit and shook my head (just a little) when I thought about the poor souls trying to get rid of a lot of so called utilities.

Some of these companies get so involved in trying to be the Total Solution , they become your worst nightmare when trying to get rid of them.

Case in point, Zone Labs, with Zone Alarm Firewall. One just has to go to their website and peek at the forums to see that lots of folks can't even install the program without issues. Early versions worked well, and thats what made a name for them, later versons are trouble.

As for Mcafee, here's how to manually remove VirusScan 7.0 off of Windows XP.
