I have a 84 ish 40c on a 14 foot fiberglass open bow with a 13 pitch prop. The boat wont plane at all and is very slow. When I bought the motor it had a 11 pitch on iy but the prop was BEAT UP but I could tell it wanted to go faster but being the blades were bent up it wouldnt. With the 13 the motor dosent even get to max rpms.Whats the original pitch prop that came on this motor? Is this motor strong enough to get my boat on plane? Thanks

I use 11 pitch Huster on my 40C on an alum 14'er. I can run a 12 pitch but don't like loss of planing performance, especially with 3 in boat. I get 32mph with the 11 pitch and 2 on board. I believe the engine came stock with a 11.3 pitch which is marked (11).

Re: Original prop pitch on 40c

The shorts came with the 11 pitch packed in the engine box. There were quite a few longs that were shipped with 10 pitch propellers back in the mid 80's. The stated reason at the time was that the longshafts were generally pushing a heavier load....They probably just needed to get rid of the 10 pitch props.d:)
