Motor is a Johnson 81 90hp
Where do I plumb the bleeders to (ones behind the heads)

What do the check valves under the carb do and what do I hook them to

I found a small black pump (or what I think is a pump) unhooked and free in the motor pan. It has the same type check valves on it and appears to be a pump. There is spot for it mount to the motor..

I purchased this motor this way. I also noticed the carb has no choke plate on it so how does it choke.

does your motor have a vro system on it? In other words doyou have to mix your own fuel? If motor has a vro system there would be two lines running into your motor, one for gas and one for oil. If the vro was disconnected there would be a plug dangling from from the fuel pump with 3 or 4 wires attatched. Did that answer anything?

Right, your '81' would not be oil injected.

You plumb the check valve hoses to corresponding nipples just behind the carburetors, on the intake manifold.
They're not easy to see and harder to get to.

If you haven't rebuilt the carbs, I suggest you do so. While the carbs are off, the intake nipples are much more accessable.

Also, the shift rod is easy to access, another opportunity. That is to replace the water pump. Since you have to disconnect the shift rod to drop the lower unit.

Do it all at once, you'll thank yourself later.

The black object you mention may very well be the fuel pump. It is supposed to be attached to the engine on the Starboard (right) side. Look for a machined area on the block, right behind the carbs.

No the fuel pump is there could it have something to do with the cross flow and while looking closer I noticed two check valve hoses on each cylinder so four on the right and four on the left just behind the cylinders. I also noticed the black thing that looks to be a pump was contected to the gas line after the fuel pump.

I think the black thingy is the fuel primer. That is why you have no choke butterflys. When you push the key in the Black thingy injects fuel into the cylinders IE: the choke.

On line comes from the incoming fuel supply to the larger nipple on the selonoid(From a tee). The 2 coming out of the selonoid go to the carbs. One will go to a tee and split to the bottom 2 carbs. The other will go to the top carb...

HOw does the four valves hook up on the side of each cylinder with the primer pump. The valves are on both sides two per cylinder just behind the heads.
