Dry shoot a compound bow - did I goof??

Was at the dixie deer classic and was looking at compound bows for my son and I pulled the one back and let it "dry fire" no arrow...<br /><br />The guy kinda of winced so I assume I made a mistake...<br /><br />Not really a bowhunter or hunter in general so I dont know<br /><br />Thnx<br /><br />Tomatolord

You can only dry fire a PSE bow. Its part of their marketing stratagey.

Most bow shops have a sign to the effect of...You dry fire it you buy it. It is hard on the limbs and can throw the cams out. It is probably a good thing you could not read his mind while he was wincing!<br /><br />Sorta like running a outboard motor with no water...Is it certian your gonna destroy it if ya do it just once, No but I wouldn't recomend doing it because bad things can happen in a hurry!

A bow requires a load on the strings or you run the risk of cracking the limbs.
