1985 19' Bayliner Capri w/ Force 125 o/b

With a 21 pitch prop top speed is 30 and a slug to get to plane. Pulling tube top speed is 20.

Switched to a 15 pitch prop after checking plugs, fuel filter. Took it to the lake to try it and was very pleased with the way it jumped up and plained out quickly, but top speed was 30-32.

Will a 17 pitch give higher speed? I know I need to get a tach as to not over rev the motor.

How fast should the boat go?
What is the best way to go as far as adding a tach?

Any suggestions on my problems? Thank you for your help.

Re: NEED HELP 125 FORCE

I'd expect that motor to do better than it is. Something's not right. I'd expect close to 40mph with a 21 prop. Remove the sparkplugs and see what they look like. If you can, check the compression and see of all four sparkplugs are sparking. For speed, the 21 should do fine. A 17 would be best for waterskiing, and a 19 would be a good average prop.

Hello,runnin a 19 pitch on a 86 19ft 125hp.
wrks great but top speed only 30-35mph.
Pulls pretty good too.
Will take that 21 off your hands if your gonna pull it.

Re: NEED HELP 125 FORCE

need some input on prop selection.

started with a 14 pitch on a 86-125 force.
rpm maxed, neck snap bottom end,top end poor.
switched to 19p and runnin around 4200 rpm 30-35 top mph fully trimmed.
Which one for both top end and higher rpm should i try.A 17? or 21p for more mph low rpm.

Re: NEED HELP 125 FORCE

Watershed, what were your wot rpm with the 14" pitch prop?
I bet it was about 5100 rpm.
That is close to what you want.

With the 19p @ 4200 max rpm, you are lugging your engine, not good. A 21p prop will make it worse and you might not even get on plane.

A 17 should be a pretty good compromise.

hello,yep ,good guess.
Will look for a 17p.that should put me at 4600rpm
when i find one will let ya kno results.they recommend 45-5500 max.
be interesting to see what it does to top speed.
This tiny tach wrks great, pretty cheap too considering its custom made for 20 pole.
thnks
