Another transducer location question!

Hello fellow tahoe owners! First post here but I've been reading posts here for awhile now. I have to ask for everyone's opinion on the best location to mount a transducer on my 2008 q5i sf. I recently purchased a humminbird 597 ci Di combo at bass pro. Also purchased a ram mount for it to mount to the right of the gauges. (Got that idea from here! Thanks) I am planning to document and post my install here so others can get a feel for what its like to install one. (With lots of pics of course!) I like the space to the right of the bunker (pic1) but im worried about the streaks near the bow that line up with that location (pic2). That streak might cause turbulence in the water which will hinder the units ability to achieve a good sonar picture. The second location I think is way to close to the outdrive (pic3). Let me know what you guys think. rps20140508_214749.jpgrps20140508_215049.jpgrps20140508_215145.jpg

Re: Another transducer location question!

I find the biggest issue for me isn't probably the turbulence... but the huge change in angle of the hull in the water at various speeds.

At stop the bow is very very low. under way it is much higher, but then at various speeds it changes some as well.

I utilize my map on my finder which has depths much more then the actual reading...

Re: Another transducer location question!

Thanks boat drinks. Ya I guess your right. I should be worried about depth under way more than sonar image as thats prob the only concern at that time. I have a factory pirahna max 170 installed at the bow with the through hull transducer. This set up is completely useless under way. The depth gauge and sonar image are completely scrambled as soon as I get on plane. Hopefully I can get this one working so I can have a nice clean depth reading at all speeds. Than the next project is installing a new trolling motor mount transducer for the 170.

Moved my transducer due to a SmartTabs install, moved it from outer hull bump out to the inner transom by photo 2, works great! Way better than before!

rps20140603_210343.jpg rps20140603_210246.jpg Glad you said that. Thats exactly where I ended up installing it. Haven't been out on the water yet this season (I know sounds crazy) due to many spring projects around the house. Will post results along with more pics of the install prosess when i get the chance.

My depth gauge constantly flashes when moving unless I am basically crawling. It is very annoying to not be abe to tell what the depth is at any given speed. I cannot see the pics above...do you have pics BoatDrinks of your install?

Well here are the photos from my install on a Q5 (pretty similar to barcelo5) - works better then ever in this location on my Q5! I think at higher speeds there is a little bit more water there maybe than at the outside of the hull..?

or it was just an issue with the angle at the old location (although it looked right to me and the dealer)

Just an uptade for you guys. Transducer works perfectly. Full depth display at all speeds. And full functionality at low speeds. Thanks to this forum for the great info!
