I look at the specs on the 1986 MR22 it's states transome hieght is XL.
?1.is the extra long shaft a 25"?

?2.if yes can the 20" shaft be lowered to proper hieght w/ a jackplate?

I look at the specs on the 1986 MR21 it's states transome hieght is L.
?3.is the long shaft a 20"?

Thanks TB

Probably

No

Probably

Also depends on if a seller ever modified the transom to fit whatever motor he had and wanted to make work.

Interesting. Yeah, from what's listed in the brochure, I'd translate it as a 25" transom for the MR22, and a 20-21" transom for the others. You could probably get away with a jackplate, but you might run into issues with your rigging, steering, and tilt. I'd be more inclined to rebuild the transom at 20-21" if the splashwell allowed it... if I was staying with the standard long shaft motor

Look into the availability of an XL (25") shaft in the HP your looking for. I was going to build my transom up for a XL shaft, but there are a lot more options I think for a 20" shaft motor. Something to think about.

1 - Yes, 25" = XL
2 - No, Jack plates raise motors
3 - Yes, 20" = L shaft

I have a '73 Mariner 21' and a long shaft fits perfect.

I would not cut down a 25" transom to fit a motor. They make kits to extend the lengths of a LU
