We have had our islander for 2 years now and was quite the nightmare at the start. The boat has grown on us and this winter it got torn apart and is getting the mulch and wet foam replaced with new as well as re powered. She has the reviled 470 which I like and was lucky enough to get a nice used one from a glass boat. I do have pics of the remains in a dumpster but have to find them. Here are some pictures of the project.

This is the front motor mount. Is this a Starcraft part or something cobbled together. Explains why the out drive is hard to install

Welcome to the Tin-sanity ;)

Nice looking project Islander. Made quick work of tearing out the transom, a forklift would be a great addition to a resto tool box...........

Never seen a 1988 Islander forward motor mount, but certainly doesn't look factory....

Thanks for the welcome! I am lucky to have her inside and 3 helpers . I don't think the motor mount will be returning to service. The forklift sure is handy!

Thanks for the good words. I will replacin the 470 with a 488 lol I got one almost new so we will see. The old one did really good and until I did a compression test was going to reuse it. It was doing 32 at wot after dragging all the wet foam to the dumpster, I got some respect for the four banger

Welcome to the TinDrydock, Otter. Good start with pics. :D How long have you been at the resto? Is the 488 a complete swap with the outdrive too?

The boat is a 1988 Starcraft Islander 221v. (21') Here are pictures of before we bought the boat, just after pulling into the yard, and our first trip out on the water.

Great looking Islander and a big project. :welcome: Otter. Will be tagging along on this one, one day I will find one of these or Chief that is close enough to home not to break the bank.

That's a nice looking boat - and looks like you are already well into it. I'll be watching and drooling. And Dozer - if you find one of those close to you.....you and I may be racing to get to it first.

We pulled the boat on October 15 and started tearing it down. There are 4 of us working on the weekends so it goes a little faster. The floors are in and the transom needs buttoned up. The engine is almost ready too. We need to have it ready to go back in May 1 if the Ice is out. The Admiral has a hunger for fried walleye.
