I am looking at a 191 SFM with a 4.3 L V6. The boat is in good condition, motor sounds good and the floor and transom are solid. The trailer is in good shape with new tires. What is a fair price to pay?

We would need to see some pictures of the boat, know what part of the country your in. I would be taking it for a test drive as well. There can be expensive hidden performance problems with a V6, V8 engine.

The boat is located in Ohio and listed on Craigs List 1995 Starcraft 191 Deep V fishing boat. The local lakes still have ice on them so not able to test drive. I'm looking for a Walleye boat to use on Lake Erie and I think this would make a good fishing boat.

The boat looks well maintained. With the big shop in the background i would be willing to bet its been stored inside. If everything checked out I would offer 4500 see if he bites

Yes, its been stored in a heated garage and looks like he has taken good care of it but he is real firm on the price. He has trolling rods and tackle he wants to sell separately but I think he's asking too much and I've accumulated a lot of tackle etc over the past 20 yrs. This type of boat is kinda hard to find. I like the Lunds a little better but they are out of my price range.

Well the condition appears to be worth it. It is on the high side, but its worth what you are willing to pay. Remember on this forum specifically the Starmada most of us paid in the less than $1000 range to rebuild but I can say most of us will easily have $5600 in our rebuilds. Starcraft makes a great boat and there is no doubt with proper care she will treat you well for a lifetime. In the end though only you can decide if its worth it to you. I wod be comfortable at $4500 but the condition of that boat does justify the price. No way would i pay it without a shakedown cruise.

Thanks for your advise. I may have to pass on it ,he wants to sell asap, he doesn't want to budge on the price and its going to be another week or more before I'd be able to get a test drive.

Not a bad boat pretty steep price especially if he wants to sell asap. No test drive at that price means no money. For all we know the heat went out in the garage over winter he didnt winterize because its in a heated garage and he knows the block has freeze damage now wants to unload his busted boat

I don't like the ASAP sellers either, they make me suspicious about their motives. One thing I noticed and wonder about is the owners need to put nice big trim tabs on AND a hydro foil tale thing too on the outdrive. What the heck is trying to fix by adding both when trim tabs should do the trick.

Yeah most of us do end up with 5 to 6k boats after restoring them, but they are like new, not showing 20 years of age and use when we're done.

Very good point about the trim tabs and hydrofoil. His logic was it made the boat more stable, he thought the boat was too tail heavy. I thought the 4.3 v6 would make good power for that sized boat, not sure but the seller thought it was 165 hp. Does that sound right? Anyhow this style of boat is what I would like to find. I have a 16 StarCraft SS which is a great little boat but I would like a little larger boat for Lake Erie.

If it's a 165 it may be a straight 6, real good motor. I am a little worried about the fin and tabs as well.

Yeah the 4.3 MC should depending on the model, make 185 to 210 HP I do believe. Mines a 205 HP which has the 4bbl carb on it.

ASAP sellers often budge when they don't get the price. And he's at the top or over the top dollar price, so it may be a while before he sells it. You are going to have to look at it because his description makes no sense. There never was a 165 HP 4.3, the straight six and 470 were long gone in '95 - Unless an older motor was put in. I agree on the tabs and whale tail. One of them is a waste of money because you don't need both. I'll take the tabs over the whale tail.

In your area--and if you can live with 18', this is a much better deal! It is likely that both boats need work for decaying plywood. May as well start with a less expensive platform.

"Must sell! Firm on price!"

I love that statement from sellers. Sure seems to me that it should be one or the other. But whatever.

Yah, at $5600, yur in test run money range.

At that price point I'd want everything to check out on that 20 year old boat. Fair price, but she should be turn key.

I would be fine with an 18', I was hoping to find something that wasn't going to involve a lot of time and money and keep me on the water. I put a new floor in my 1974 SS, not a fun job but its a solid little boat. So maybe worth taking a look.
