How much does a 1965 16' aluminum starcraft weigh

I'm interested in purchasing a small fishing boat that I can tow with my Corolla. It's rated at 1500lbs (assuming 150lb driver). There's a 1965 starcraft with a 50hp merc for sail and I'm wondering if it would be doable. Anyone know how much it weighs?

You are probably right around that 1500 mark with a 16 footer. Or, great excuse to grab a new truck

Boat - 540
50 hp motor - 175
Gear and gas - 200 tops
trailer - 400
1300 lbs ---- so Jas at 1500 is maybe a bit high... but 1200 to 1500 is about right. I tow basically the same thing with a bigger motor with a 2007 Malibu with a 3.5 V6... just fine --- but I wouldn't want to tow much more.

I've figured the weight of my rig pretty closely (1964 15' alum. Starcraft & 50 hp motor) and it's just a little over 700 lbs. fully loaded.

Add 300 or so for the trailer and that's 1000 lbs., so I think you'd be well under the limit assuming it's just you & no load in the Corolla.

If I remember correctly from the star craft brochure, a 16 foot Jupiter weights 540 lbs.... now of course, that's new. Two weeks ago I took over 750 lbs of what was the inside of the boat!!! I there is a star craft brochure thread that should have the boat weights. Google the motor model and make and you should be able to get the weight pretty easily.

I googled the motor at ~200. Couldn't find the boat specs anywhere.

I have a friend who tows two three seat jet skis with a Geo Prism and it does just fine. Like you said, not ideal, but it does the job. Regardless of what you're towing with any vehicle, extra care is needed and attention to your surroundings. As long as you keep that in mind everyone will be safe.

Having towed a 16' Starcraft for two seasons with a Buick sedan with a large V6 and not particularly enjoying the experience, I'd really caution against towing a similar rig with a Corolla.

EZ was really just looking for a good excuse er ummmm reason for a truck! I here that a Porsche makes a great tow vehicle as well...

I was surprised that your Corolla is rated for 1500 lb. My 02 Impala V6 is only rated to tow 1000.

Indeed. My '00 Buick Regal was the same 1000.

For whatever reason, gm rates virtually all thier cars at 1000 lbs towing capacity. Which after you take people and equipment out doesn't leave you much...
