Hello everyone.

I've recently been handed a 1964 Starcraft with a '74 chrylser Magnapower ll motor. I would like to post some pictures to see if any starcraft enthusiasts can help me to identify what i have. Keeping the boat in the family i want to restore it as much as i can, save for a few cosmetic modifications i have in mind. I've stumbled upon this forum and for the past few nights ive been up till the wee hours of the morning looking at everyones boats and getting excited for the one my wife and i just got. As far as i can figure... maybe a Jet? Jet star? Was also wondering if anyone could tell me any information about the chrome dash-panel thats in it... is it starcraft? chrysler? aftermarket? Any help would be highly appreciated and any future correspondence is very welcome and no doubt probably needed lol.
Thank you

Welcome. That year there were a whole bunch of closed bow runabouts offered. So it could be a Jet, Jet Star, Starmist, Sea Mist, or may a Jupiter. We have seen that crazy dash on at least one other Starcraft on here so I think it is factory Starcraft.

Welcome!

She sure looks a lot like the Jet Star that I am currently rebuilding.

Man, I think I see a really super cool wood steering wheel there, don't I?:)

Jet Star? But then I am prejudiced towards them. Welcome.

Welcome aboard HotRod, nice old boat you have there:)

I think it's a Nassau or Jet Star, depends on specs and details like how many knee braces you've got.

Is there a factory data plate anywhere? The sides look too low to be a Jupiter in my opinion, so I think the guys might be right about it being a Jet Star.

Thanks for the replies guys...

It would be nice if that Dash is a factory dash... i will polish that up and leave that with the boat as well with the "really super cool wood steering wheel" lol (thanks jasoutside) That steering wheel was a gift to my wifes granfather for the boat so it will get polished up as well. The Knee braces... i'm just getting into the boating world here so im not exactly sure what you mean (although i was in the navy for 21 years lol) are those the braces at the back of the boat going to the transom? (i was a seabee...lol be kind) if thats what you mean .. there are three. Starcrafter65 has a picture of a '66 Nassau that looks almost exactly like this boat. So I'm thinking this might not even be a 64 except for what it says on the registration. Huron Angler, no data plate...Jasoutside and Bananaboater... VERY NICE boats .... and thanks for the comments everyone... nice to be aboard!

Yah, there was a bit of a scuffle around here regarding the 1 vs. 3 knee brace deal. I don't quite remember what ended up being what, but one of the other guys may remember.

My minds eye is seeing that steering wheel all refinished and looking excellent at the end of this project, cool!:D

You are correct about the knee braces...and 3 means it's a Nassau if I remember correctly:D

I like the steering wheel too, it ties the whole rig together I'm sure:)

Thanks for your service in the Navy, I'm sure you have plenty of knowledge about metal boats that are a bit larger;)

The number of knee braces does not determine the model! Sorry HA. My Jet has 3. The number is more related to when the boat was built. Earlier ones like the 50's-60's have 3 and later ones went down to one. I like to think the earlier ones were overbuilt.

Thanks bananaboater for the knee brace clear up... still looking at everyones boats... the nearest one i can find that looks like mine is starcrafter65's resto... his '66 nassau. lol not because its blue.. but the design of it. When i look at a Jet i see the inside walls kinda start off narrow near the dash and gradually get larger towards the back, and the nassau stays one size all the way back. I'm still in the "research stage" of the boat... taking my time.

That will be a really cool restore project. I hope that dash cluster cleans up, buffs out or rechromes. Very unique man. I own what I call a Jet but after nearly 20 yrs still not sure. Good luck with the restore, I'll keep track of the progress.

Thanks for setting me straight Albert:)

Probably had to do with the cost of aluminum back in the day.

They overbuilt when it was cheap, and then cut back once prices went up in the 70s.
