that motor will be fine on that ,not like you're strapping a 350 hp motor on there , just 5 hp over shouldn't be too bad

Most guys in my neck of the woods go hydraulic when they go over 150hp.
It?s also the last time you have issues with steering cables. $$$
Do you plan on a kicker?

The 22 Holiday is rated at 150 Max HP. Mine had a 200 on it and I have had it inspected and no Question as it weigs the same as a 150 Evinrude. Sure does go fast.

here is the 74 brochure that i found on the forum. if i can see it correctly it looks as though it is rated for a 195hp. the IO is rated at 165. i will look at my plate again and double check.

Re: 1974 Starcraft 21ft Holiday OB questions

well guys its been a few months since i've been able to get on here. Since the last time i was on the site a lot has happened. the 125 Johnson that was on the back of the boat does run. but rest assured the black max is still on the back. I rewired the whole boat from front to back. put in 5 or 6 extra circuits. I knew i wanted to install side lights and also have extras for who knows what. I'll try to get some pictures up in the next few days. With all this midwest rain i think my boat will float in my yard before the end of the week!

My 18' SS is rated for 150 which is a V6 motor. Yours being a 21', although probably over the max rated....I don't think it's going to be like out of control dangerous.

I only have a 90 on mine and it glides over the water at 39MPH and produces like NO wake. http://s176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/?action=view&current=hole_shot.flv

Nice video. When my 18' holiday had a 140 on it (top rating), that thing did close to 50mph. These starcrafts can be seriously fast boats because they're crazy light.

the center of the deck is actually carpet now. i pulled off the old slippery vinyl and put down the same carpet as the carpet i put in the floors.

Re: 1974 Starcraft 21ft Holiday OB questions

Hi to all the old friends i have out there. rest assured its October 11th, and a nice and sunny 81 degrees where I'm from. sure enough I'm not out in the boat on the water. but i did spend my weekend working on the holiday. first weekend since august actually. a lot has been accomplished since then. Ordered a dual cable steering system from somewere online. got that and what a difference. i finally got the 175 hung on the back of the boat. have a few minor things today before i get it all tied down tight.

the motor is just a little bigger than the johnson 125. lol

also got the guages installed. made a nice templete and used the hole saws to cut them in just how i wanted them. still have to find new vinyl though

also put in the teleflex tilt steering that came with my steering package. it was another freebie and i couldn't turn down a school bus driver look.

its quit the difference from what was once what i thought as the most guages you could need.

i'll post more pictures later if i can get them loaded on the computer here at work.

one quick question i have. i need to re-do the top of the gunnels and the top of the boat. carpet? paint that wont scratch? bedliner? anybody have any other ideas?

The Merc looks great on the Holiday, she will really plane out quickly I'm sure.

The tilt steering is nice, I wish I had that on my rig.:)

I will be repainting my gunwales, I'm not a huge fan or carpet or bedliner on boats. If I put any type of material there it would be the Nautolex marine vinyl since it has great grip and is very durable.

Let us know what kind of performance you get, have fun!

i took a picture of the coast guard plate. or whatever you want to call it back in the early 70's.

guess she's rated for a 170. i don't think a few more horses will make her hurt.

i tore the dash out of the boat and looked for any goodies i could find hiding.

i had big plans to re-vinyl the entire boat. i got a bit excited about getting the boat back on the river and just put it all back together for the season. needless to say with work and school i didn't have much time in my boat this season. this will be one of my winter projects. thank god i've got a long shop. with the boat and trailer in the shop i only have a few feet on both ends to get around. damn holiday is more of a barge. i need to come up with a name for the boat. dont ask my why i like to name everything. named the switzer the orange rocket. named my jeep the unflippable tank. (and the following weekend i flipped it on the trail) so if anybody can think of anything good for the barge.
i'm looking for a switch panel for the boat. been searching online. also want to go with a dual battery system. thinking about a trickel charger or something along those lines. already have a perko battery selector switch that i have to put in. i bought led attwood lights. i honestly think i can see them from a mile away. i've yet to hook up the courtesy lights. but that will be done soon enough. i've got a long way to go on this project. but when its done it'll stand out. keep on posting.

Re: 1974 Starcraft 21ft Holiday OB questions

If I ever work on my 22 holiday the only thing I would do is put Nautlex on the sides on top and the Bow. Looks good ,wears like iron, and is non sliping. Also covers any strange holes. I covered the side rails on my restored 16 SS I just finished, and was very pleased as to how the vinyl dresses the boat up a bit. Are these big Holidays great or what. I have a 200 Johnson on the back.

Re: 1974 Starcraft 21ft Holiday OB questions

well i made my first trip on the river with the boat this weekend. it was my goal when i got home thursday to spend sunday enjoying myself.
i got everything hooked up to the motor and got everything tucked away and taped together as good as i could for now. going to order large shrink wrap or something similar to protect the bundle comming out of the back of the boat

i ordered the dual cable steering a long time ago and finally got everything tucked away and adjusted like i wanted. i am very happy with it. there really is "no feedback" it was ten times better than i had expected.

i didn't take my camera with me on the river for some reason and needless to say i wish i would have.

i had rewired the entire boat from front to back. this was the final project that is hide under the back of the boat. i have an extra fuse holder inline with the battery cable just for cautious measures.

here is the gas tank that was full of nastyness when we first got it. i cleaned it out the best i could and lined it with a poly similar to what we used to line bike tanks with at the shop. it cost almost 60 dollars worth of poly to get the tank sealed up right.

here is the last picture i took saturday night. it was getting dark but i think that the boat looks good. the boat is still in alot of need. but for an end of the season run i couldn't have been happier.

the boat seriously drives like a cadillac. the only thing it does't have is lumbar support and air bags. i spent sunday afternoon on the river and wow. it was light fast and didn't move an inch when i ws jumping up and down. the v5 hull cuts through everything. i set my pop on the dash and took off through the barge waves. ive never ride in somthing that cut the waves like this. the 175 pushed the boat very well. i still have my 25 pitch prop on the boat and the speedo read 55 when i got on it one time. pretty sure it'll do a little faster but speed isn't what i wanted. i have my highfive prop that is a 5 blade and i'm going to try that out next weekend. starcraftmanship
just watch

Looking great. 55+ is awesome. Pretty sure that isn't a V5 hull. I think you'd have an extra strake or so if it was. Check out djpeters hull, his is a V5.

If you check the brochures, the V5's came out in '78. You have a very nice boat. She looks to be very straight. Wow, 55mph, that is seriously flying....I'm jealous!
