Hey Guys,
I know I didn't finish my 18 yet but I found a garage find that I couldn't pass up. It's a 1982 SS 160 with a 1976 85HP Johnson on the back. Everything basically worked when I tested it in his driveway. Went over it again before picking up and shifter wouldn't go in reverse and steering was locked up. So far only thing I have done is free up the steering with some grease and taken apart the control box. Seems common that these shifters main assembly go bad inside after years of wear. I will include a pic of that as well. Pretty run of the mill SS but I couldn't help but to make it mine. Fish it while fixing 18SS. It's definitely in worse shape cosmetically and this will be a fun gem.

Here are some pics:

Engine's tag says 85ETLR76G so I'm thinking a rebuilt 76 because no motor that age is gonna be that clean. But the controls show the age. Here's the assembly I was talking about:

Super nice find and that is one clean motor alright :thumb:

Just be careful if using the seats without some changes, I don't like the look of the 2 x 8 screwed to the deck.

Replaced shift cable and shift lever assembly. That now works like a charm. Going to do water pump replacement and LU lube job and test / inspect bilge pump in case there are some leaking rivets before test splash
