Recently purchased a 2000 ski supreme with 850 hrs. Was towing and bilge pump alarm went on. Stopped and emptied bilge. Continued towing and bilge alarm went off again. Emptied again. Continued towing and acceleration quit, and engine alarm went on. Turned off engine and let cool down. Then would not start (would only make a small clicking noise in what appears to be a relay). Batteries are fully charged, solenoid was replaced recently. Mechanic friend thought water may have gotten too high in the bilge and froze the starter. There is a 30 amp reset in the engine, seems to be ok-has a little play when pushing, but is probably set. Are there other resets and can these be faulty? Why would the acceleration quit? He also thought maybe the engine got too hot and it may have gone into limp mode? Does the 2000 Ski Supreme have this feature? If it is the starter, is it difficult to replace? Should the boat be taking on this much water (was not coming over the bow)?
Thanks for any input

I would guess your shaft packing in wornout and leaking. Depending on the model you have the starter is either easy to get to or hard. If it is a direct drive model then the starter is easy to access on the right side of the motor. If it is a V drive then the starter will be on the left side and a little more difficult to replace. Only two bolts hold it in place and you have one hot wire from the solenoid. Make sure you purchase a marine starter or have yours rebuilt. For a new one it would be between $175 - $200.00 guessing. If you don't fix the shaft packing it will only happen again. Owned three Master Crafts and one Nautique all of them leaked a little and had to replace the packing on everyone at least once.
