Hello,

My brothers and I just picked up a 17 foot 1977 Sea Nymph. Its in great shape except for the motor. We cant read the data plate so were not sure of the model # or the ratings.

The three of us all like our double cheese burgers with extra fries and it shows when we tip the scales! All we want to do is fish - no hotdogging or skiing. However, we plan to fish on some large lakes and the Puget Sound, so we do need to be able to cover some ground at a reasonable rate.

What would you folks recommend for a range of sizes for an outboard thats not too big or too small?

I'll see about posting some pics tomorrow.

Thanks in advance!

I know this is an old thread, but you promised photos! Did you end up finding a motor?

Forum user train just posted this 1983 sea nymph catalog in another thread
Sea Nymph Catalog Photos by sn85 | Photobucket

1983 SS171
Approx weight 760 lbs
max HP 90
(not sure about your 1977 year)

If you slap the max HP on that hull I bet it would fly like a mo fo!

The CC191 (1000 to 1150 lbs) in that catalog has a max HP of 140. A 90HP reportedly can push it up to 38mph.

My hard drive crashed a while back and I lost all the boat pics. I need to take some more...

We ended up getting a '86 Evinrude 70hp. When we are running right at the max weight, it pushes us along at about 32-33 mph at full throttle. Cruises at about 25 or so.

We are very happy with it :)
