I am now the proud owner of a 2001 BR 196 with a 2001 Yamaha carbureted 2 stroke and was wondering what others were getting at WOT. The boat came with a SS 19" Merc Vengeance prop which gives me 45 mph at 4700 rpm. I think the rpm is at the bottom of the range and was wondering if I would gain much if I went to a 17" prop.

Thanks for the help, Jim

Yes you will be doing much better with a 17.
I run a yamaha performance 18 on the same engine as yours on a 2020DC.

Thanks for the reply wildspeed. I think I will be looking for a 17" prop and raising the motor up 1 hole to see if that helps too.

Re: Bay Reef 196 w/ 150 2 stroke

i know this is an old post but I just got the same boat and motor. It came with a damaged 21 pitch alum prop. I have replaced it with a 21 pitch stainless steel from Michigan Wheel and top speed is 46, by gps, with 5000 rpm's. This is with the motor trimmed out as far as it will allow before cavitating. My question is should the wot range be when trimmed out or trimmed in?

Larry, I just pulled out my owners manual and it shows 4500-5500 RPM as WOT. Looks like you are in the right range if you are happy with the hole shot. If not you could drop down to a 19".
Sorry for the late reply, have not been here as often now that ther is a new forum at www.keywestboatsforum.com

Hey I appreciate the reply, the hole shot is good so I guess I am good to go.
Thanks
