Last weekend I bought a 1980 Glastron SSV167 (16 foot V-hull outboard) with a 90HP Mariner. The boat is in very good condition, better than any Craigslist "mint" or "excellent" or "immaculate" ads I have seen!

I do not have new pics yet, sorry. I picked it up about 320 miles from home Saturday ( 1/11/2014) and got back late and had to cover it before the neighborhood cats christened the interior for me. I will get new pics this coming weeked. I will post a couple from the Craigslist ad as a teaser.

The sale went well. The ad from this guy was written very intelligently and when we met it was like I bought it from myself the way we clicked. I even talked myself down some :)

Gelcoat is still shiny all over, top and sides and transom. The floor is absolutely solid and pristine. Transom is solid and not even any spider cracks in any corners, looks pristine. Carpet shows no wear. The vinyl is still soft and the cushions comfortable, just a few wear points if you look closer. The walk-thru windshield all lines up perfectly, just like new, whole boat is just solid as heck.

Still on the original ShoreLandr tilt trailer. Bolt on coupler still looked new, bearings recently packed, good winch and jack, and made the 320 mile trip easily, pulled great.

It is the Fish'nSki version but to me seems more Ski than Fish which is fine with me as I do not fish. Has the pedestal and seat for the open bow area, the pedestal when installed is rock solid. The fishing seat looks great too. Came with trolling mount and motor and battery mount under the left console and wiring with outlet up front all factory installed. Cooler section up front as well (or a place to put fish in I guess, but no livewell pumps) and under-seat storage. Seat cushions up front snap down. I knew Glastrons were built well and am very happy I found this one.

So I am now in MBS territory, working out storage solutions for both. That is the only downside so far.

I signed up over on Glastronowners.com as Maclin there also, and am ready to go to any Meet-ups close to or in North Texas if "y'all" know of any, thanks!

A couple of pics after I worked on it a little bit. Finished the top mounting, I have to have a top as I cannot be in the sun for long at a time. I prefer the looks of the convertible style tops over a bimini, just better lines in my view. One of these days i will have an original style soft top made up but for now this is what I came up with...

I got the boat out on the lake today. Ran great, handled and rode well, I was impressed and very happy with the performance. Motor starts good, idles good and is very responsive and strong. With the 90HP Mariner and 17p stainless prop this thing jumped up on plane right away and hit top speed in just a few seconds, kind of scared me the way it accelerates out of the hole.

It was kind of windy, 15-20 mph, and it handled chop well, slices thru the waves instead of slapping them, way more comfortable than I expected. In calmer water by the dam it was very stable and so comfortable.

I am sure it is underpropped some, but would make a good ski tow boat. The tach did not work so I need to get that fixed to see where I am at with the pitch. It hit about 40mph, and as I mentioned before this thing just rips out of the hole.

No water came out when I did the required zebra-mussel bilge draining on the ramp, ski locker was also dry but I expected that as this boat is so solid.

I am very happy with this purchase, will be lots of fun this season.

Just thinking I would give an update after a season with this new-to-me boat. Had a blast this summer with it. No problems at all, ran great each time, went out 10 or 11 times. Borrowing from a Bic Butane ad campaign ran last century, "Not a mega-yacht, but for $1650 it's a pretty good bowrider..." :)

One of the last trips....
