Hello,

I just bought my new USED 1988 Glasstream. The title says it is 16 foot-10 inches.
Any body know how to docode/decipher the hull number?

It came with a Escort trailer.

I originally posted the engine as being a Mercury 140 HP Inline 6...
After a couple of more knowledgable friends have looked at it, we have concluded that it is a sort of "Frankenstein"... The powerhead looks to be a Mariner 115 HP Inline 6, with the shaft from a 140 and the lower unit looks to be adapted from a larger, maybe 150-200 HP engine...Go Figure?

I picked it up at a real good price and I am just starting to go through it.

The motor runs great and basically just needs maintenance.

The trailer is in almost perfect condition, just need to hook up the lights.

The hull is a bit rough around the edges, but I have already got most of the wiring straightened out. Got the helm operating properly [gauges, switches, lights, pumps, etc.]. Just need to plug a bunch of un-needed holes, and re-paint the upper deck and add some seat cushions.

Since the first time I posted this, the unneeded hull holes have been plugged, I found a bit of wood rot in a few spots, but nothing that should keep it from fishing, and all in all a pretty stought package. Still need to repair a few things and eventually purchase or have made, some riding seats/cushions.

Been taking some pics and will post when finished.

Look out fish!

Thanks,gt.

Re: 1988 Glasstream

Put it in the water yesterday...It FLOATS! But, the lower unit needs going over, no water pressure and after I got it home, Lots of water in the gearcase...
In any case, I tested out the electrics, A+...The trolling motor, while small for this size boat, the low price of free makes up for the current deficiencies, A+...
Bilge pump, A+...Live well aerator, A+...
Found a couple of leaky drain hoses, already fixed...more improvements on the way...and the lower is apart and awaiting it's new pieces parts...
More updates soon...
Keep on Fishin and Float, Float On

Re: 1988 Glasstream

I have purchased a 1988 Glasstream Angler 176 Bassboat, it is 17 1/2 ft with a 150 hp Evinrude Outboard Motor. The Bilge pump works ok and the Livewell Aerator Switch is Missing. It has 2 Livewells and both of them have the Aerator Nozzle Connected to a Inlet hose, but I don't know where the Bilge Pump or Aerator Pumps are Located. You can hear the Bilge Pump run and it sounds like it may be located under the gas tank, but i'm not sure. I have called Glasstream and it seems like they don't know of any manuals or design drawings as to where the pumps are located as it is an old boat. If any body has any idea please reply.

thanks,

Re: 1988 Glasstream

Hello shytiger,
I am by no means an expert in this boating stuff, as I too, recently bought my Glasstream. I can however, tell you that the bilge and aerator pumps for my boat are located at the very back [stern], behind the fuel tank. Quite possibly under a cover. If your boat is similar to mine? One way to try and find it, is to put in the bilge plug, also located in the same area, but may be accessible from the outside of the hull. Then, fill the hull partially with water. Enough, so that when the bilge pump is turned on, water flows out of the bilge outlet. Then trace that pipe/hose from the outlet, to the bilge pump.
If that doesn't work, try and re-post your question in the main forum, under the correct thread heading and some one with a lot more experience can help you out. This post was started by myself and in no way represents 1988 Glasstream boats. There is however, a thread on the main forum that deals specifically with Glasstream boats and almost any other boating subject you may have questions about. As I am sure you will:)
Keep on Fishin and Float,Float On!

PS- if you look at the pictures I posted previously, you will see one picture of the very back, inside of my boat. It is a large compartment where the fuel tank, batteries, etc. go. At the very back, you will notice what look to be some holes in the bottom of the hull. That deeper, smaller compartment is wher my bilge and aerator pumps go. It is the picture titled, "rat's nest". The second one down.

Re: 1988 Glasstream

Hello,
Just wanted to post an update on my Glasstream.
I have had it in the water almost a dozen times since the last update and would like to report the following:
I do not have a GPS yet, but the speedo was registering over 40mph with me and my significant other, along with the all the fishing gear. This thing flat out scoots.
I do not have reverse gear, as I am sure that the lower has suffered some damage from the previous owners lack of proper care, but I get around this problem by either being well aware of what is coming up next, or just using the trolling motor for tight quarters manuevering... so until I find a decent used lower...I don't need no stinkin reverse:D...
I have been constantly making small incremental improvements and this is fast becoming a reelly nice fishin boat, so much so we have named it the "BASSASSIN";)
I can't wait for the weekends to go out and have some fun...This boat makes life a blast! Already have a long list of wanna-be fishin buddies, and I am more than eager to get them hooked.
Here's a couple of recent pics from some of the many trips out...Bassassin.jpgP1010221.JPGP1010223.jpgDSCF1091.jpg
Keep on fishin and Float,Float On!

PS- I want to make a big shout out to all the help I recieved from the fellow boaters in the www.iboats.com forum...THANKS!

Re: 1988 Glasstream

As of last month, the engine's been blown up and while that gets done, the boat is currently undergoing a complete restoration...
