Hello fellow boaters,

Just purchased a 1995 Four Winds Freedom which needs a new motor hood as the underlying wood is rotted, however the vinyl is in good shape. I plan to build a new hood myself and am looking for suggestions as to what materials to us. Would appreciate your recommendations.

Re: Motor Hood

You can use pressure treated plywood, or regular exterior ACX and coat it with epoxy resin. If you use pressure treated you need to use stainless steel staples so the chemicals in the PT wood don't corrode them. I just had to replace the wood in the sunpad on my '88 200 Horizon and I used PT plywood and stainless staples to re-attach the vinyl. When you take yours apart, use the old wood as a pattern for the new pieces. I did that with my project and it really saved time.
